I've wanted dreads since childhood but never did it because my mom is a hairstylist and used to hate them (because she also fell into the whole dread stereotypes) and then I was working with children for a number of years and when I left that job, became horribly depressed. I finally wanted to do something for myself so I went for it. My hair was always so tangled anyways, I was tired of brushing all the time. They really have taught me patience. I love them now but there was a time where the only reason I didn't brush them out was because I didn't walk around looking like hell and ripping my hair apart for months for nothing haha.

"I love them now but there was a time where the only reason I didn't brush them out was because I didn't walk around looking like hell and ripping my hair apart for months for nothing haha." lol say that again BrokenJetSki! you mean brushing out would've made you look "like hell" and it would take you months to take out..or no, you had them in for months? like I said, say that again!

I thought of brushing them out because they were such a hassle and looked horrible (and if you read my timeline I chronicle how hard it was to find a shampoo that worked with my hard water so it was hard to keep them clean) but I'm too stubborn to have suffered through all of that to just give up.
