He came into our lives by chance but I'm so glad he did as having an animal around as looking after him is helping motivate me a lot more.

My Simba. He's a rescue and like me the most. He's a big cat, but not fat and he's very clingy most of the time and he use to drool when cuddling. He snores too, and I begin to get him less and less afraid to shower (he use to roll in the sand)

Odie, I rescued at 6 months old. He will be 8 this year and is a typical wee shit of a jack Russell. Freya, my life and my soul, who saved my life. I rescued her at 3 months old and she will be 11 this year. I don't want a future without her. Monte was 3 when I rescued him. He has a 2.5cm hole in his heart, a grade 6 heart murmur. He is shutting down. His balance is going as his heart is currently having problems sending blood to his extremities. I can't afford the heart scan at present but he also won't survive an anaesthetic so I am loathe to put him through it. He's 11 at the end of this year so he's had a pretty good run of it. But it's destroying me. Tesla came to us at 18 months old as she was due to be shot by the dog racers as she didn't grow big enough. She's a massive softy and will be 5 this year. She's completely mental, as most greyhounds are. I also have a Chilean rose tarantula at the moment, used to have lots of snakes and other exotics/ furries. Also work with animals so I am "mother" to just under four hundred waterfowl in a zoo. Like my girl Lily here

alethionaut you are my hero, loving so much about this what an awesome little fur family you have acquired! Amazing how we become so close to them and wish they'd never leave our sides. I wish you much peace in the coming future with Monte, but be happy in knowing you are providing him with deserved love and comfort <3

This thread must be my favourite. <3 Here is my hairy baby Sylvia. She lives with my parents with her brother right now since I don't have enough room or time for her: (Wish I had better photos on this computer ) They and their mother were found in my friend's family's cowshed as kittens with their 2 siblings and no one claimed them as their own. Me and my parents took two of them, the mother stayed with my friend and other 2 kittens were also given to someone. Here she is in her favourite spot, on my parents' balcony, checking out the birds: -- I also want to add this guy even though he passed last summer: Arvo came to us 5 years ago from Estonia where he had been a stray dog. He was already approx. 10 years old with very bad eyesight so not many people wanted him but we took him and he was just the sweetest and gentlest dog in the world, couldn't have asked for a better dog. I really miss this guy. <3

Everyone has such cool animal friends!
It's getting on for a year since my dog passed. I miss him so much, and I would really like to have another but at the same time I'm enjoying the freedom at the moment so I don't know what I'd prefer right now.

I have never experienced anything more heartbreaking then losing a dog. It like a hole in your heart that can never be full again.

So very true but the love they give means it's worth it.

The Terrapin's staying at my mums place now as I don't have a garden for her to sunbathe in. She likes having an affectionate stomping shell around the house. I like how her legs go out like solar panels to catch the sun. I don't know anybody that's had a terrapin as long as me. They're not native. But she was found and some couple have her to me in the 1990's as they said they thought she was a tortoise. Now I think back maybe they were getting rid of their kids pet. She eats cat food for dinner, with prawns for dessert. Most sites will tell you that's bad but their Terrapin's don't survive and live in tanks. She lives in the house and each morning she asks to go back into some tank of water and a few days later she stomps about because she wants out. She gets a hot water bottle to sit on and on good weather a garden to run in. She climbs up your knee and try's to hug your neck. But risky when she is relaxed as she might wee so it's a dodgy game 'terrapin cuddles'. But she's good natured and bright and I'm guessing over 30 now.

When I got her I thought they fitted in a pocket and lived for a few years. Those people handed her over and she was already too big for the tank kid me had. If you look online on how to keep Terrapin's, you need this, that and the other and special food. She has sunlight, thinks terrapin pellets are gross, wants real meat, her tank is rubbish but 75% of the time she is out and living the good life. And she's kept happy and healthy in my company over 20 years. I never intended that responsibility as a 12 year old. Definitely self aware. She just started laying unfertilised eggs two years ago. How fucking long is she gonna live? If you read online she's a granny, but she's just started terrapin puberty from the evidence. Bloody hell.

I really have an appreciation for reptiles or amphibians now. They are very affectionate and have personalities. If you treat them well you get it back.

She is gorgeous. I had Terrapins growing up and really loved taking care of them. Unfortunately, one got out of the garden under my dad's watch and was run over by a car. I think my parents gave away my other when they divorced as mum wouldn't let me take him.
