I started this timeline on the old forums (I joined just a few weeks before my dreads were started) and decided to copy it here too as my locks are still going strong!
My locks were started by backcombing and after that I just pretty much neglected them, apart from adding some colorful extension at one point.
Tbh I didn't include all of the photos in the old timeline as it was quite hard for me to revisit them. I was in a really really dark place at one point with loads of self hate and I don't feel good looking at the photos from that period.
Anyways..
My hair before dreads. I have fine Scandinavian hair and quite a bit of it. It's a little curly too.
AND HERE WE GO
1 week:
Most of the backcombing has fallen out by now. I had a few braids mixed in which I later took off though because they just kept coming off lol.
1 month(ish)
Some loops and overall crazyness going on!
3 months!
They matured reaaally fast here. I also added some extension at this point because they shrinked so much that I couldn't get them in a ponytail (which I really needed in my work at the moment).
5 months!
Nothing to see here really. Still rocking some extension on the shorter ones.
7 months!
Took most of the extension off here as they were starting to get really heavy. I almost gave up at this point as my hair looked so incredibly messy here. I was growing out my own colour.
9 months!
11 months - bleached!
My friend bleached my hair as I wanted the dyed sections to match my own hair colour better. This made me alot happier.
1 year 3 months
Not much happened, slowly getting some length
2 years 2 months
Sorry for the big gap here but nothing really happened in between.
Dyed my hair purple here. It ended up blue. I still liked it.
2 years 9 months - aka now!
Nothing much has happened, just gained some more length. Sorry for the super crappy photos but my phone camera sucks.
I have a bit of a cowlick going on at the right side of my head, not really sure if it will disappear in time or will I just have to live with it.
My front camera sucks even more but I still tried with it too:
A comparison:
Here's to those who want to give up because their baby dreads look too messy or who think they'll never get any length, don't give up, it'll be awesome:
3 YEARS
No changes really apart from some new color (and desperate need of recoloring). Just wanted to document the 3 year mark!
Yay
Bumpiness!
