What method would be better for me? I have thick hair that is super straight with no curls or waves in it.

Hey jgreen. You'll probably find that twist and rip or backcombing works best for you. From personal experience, I've found that twist and rip didn't unravel as much as backcombed locks but I also have quite curly hair which may have made a difference. You'll need at least 5-6 inches before starting, either way.
