Getting naturally dreading hair sectioned at a salon.

Hey,,
was just wondering if anyone here had any information abt my current situation with my dreads.
I have been saving up to get my hair dreaded for a while now, and I am at the point where I am ready to go to a salon and get them put in and sectioned. However over the past three months I have been trying to care for my hair more similarly to how you would take care of dreadlocks and a few natural dreads have formed. Eventually I will ask the salon I'm going to but I was wondering if anybody here knew if there were any complications that would come with having a few natural dreads going into a salon to get the rest of my hair dreaded, and ultimately if it would be in my best interest to keep them leading up to my appointment or if I should start attempting to get them to unravel or brush them out.

Any feedback or info is much appreciated

I have heard of a few horror stories from people having them done at a salon,if I was u I would just keep letting them come together naturally,just keep them clean and seperate,but if u just don't wanna go natural then I wouldn't see what it would hurt to leave the ones that have already started.Good luck with your decision and be sure u start u a timeline so we can all see how it goes.✌❤

Thank u for the good luck !! I've read that a lot of people recommend going all natural and the only things I worry about is having my dreads form unevenly and at different rates in different places. Luckily I live in a larger city so I have a lot of salons I can choose from. I will be sure to start a timeline too ! Does this forum have an app?

You can browse this forum (and others) via the Tapatalk app.... it's a bit finicky but you figure it out after a while.

If you must visit a salon, the only thing I'd say is make sure they do not use wax or interlocking (where they thread the dread through the root to tighten it, as this can cause serious discomfort and headaches etc until it grows out). They'll probably want to do these things so you'll have to specify!

As someone who started at a salon and regrets it ...

If you do decide to go to a salon, make sure you understand the technique they are using and the possible consequences of that technique. I can speak from personal experience that interlocking is incredibly painful and causes weak spots in your dreads. I am battling breakage because of it. Also, doing a dread perm is equally damaging to your hair and will also cause weak spots.

Example below - the part that is sagging is where it was interlocked and to the right is dread permed hair.

Pros: insta dreads that are even
Cons: breakage ... 5 years later I’m still dealing with it.
