Here's a few photos from the last six years. I'm not going to upload the entirety of the timeline from day one as it was getting pretty unwieldy trying to load in the first page on the old forum. However if you follow the link to my album on Flikr, it has them all there along with all the commentary. I'm still taking a monthly photo, though the more recent ones tend towards whatever photo I happened to have that also showed my hair off.
Latest photos will be at the end of the thread, then I'll add them to this page every now and again.
To start them off I went with loose backcombing combined with twist and rip, because I was far too impatient to just stop brushing, and they all fell out fairly quickly. I tried tightening them a bit at three months, left them again and they fell out again. This time I left them alone and eventually they developed into the lovelies I have today. Just leave them to themselves - best decision I ever made!
Day 12
Day 42
Day 71 - Still one of my favourite photos...
Day 98
Day 141
Day 232
Day 345
Day 536
Day 617 or Twenty Months
Two Years
Twenty Seven Months
Thirty Four Months
Three Years
Forty One Months
Four Years
Fifty Seven Months
With that last one there you can see the effect of having removed some locs from the top of my head. I'm still not certain if it was the right thing to do. On the one hand it's not so obvious that I have rather thin hair (thanks thyroid!) now that the sections don't have a glaringly, obvious white scalp on display, and it's easier to find hats that fit, but on the other hand I lost a lot of volume and one of my favourite ropes. I may have to add it back in somewhere.
Five Years
Sixty Five-ish Months
Sixty Eight Months
I'm mainly posting this because I reattached my removed locs last night (temporarily for now) by braiding them into the loose hair, and piled them up in a bun.
There's a noticeable difference in weight, but I've missed having them there. I'm not sure the hair on my crown can deal with having them back permanently yet, and I do live in hope that it will grow back in a bit thicker at some point, but this is a good halfway house for now.
Six Years!
Not a lot to it really.... wash, separate, wait. It'll get there eventually!
April 2017 - I'm putting this in as it's just over a month since I stopped brushing the loose hair on the top of my head. I haven't decided if I want it to lock up, but let's just say I'm curious as to how long it might take, and perhaps just a little nostalgic for that messy first year.
