I'm new here, but I looked before as a guest. I honestly just wanted a place to share my timeline and take note of changes as things progress. I have wanted to take my locks out about 3-4 times already LOL. So I need the support of seeing that mine aren't abnormal and will eventually produce some kind of results. I'm Sam or nickname as Fizzy. I've been doing this for about a month or so. Some of mine are made by twist and rip, smaller strands backcombed, and some are natural. I haven't really had any sort of planning for this. My name is naturally already curly to some extent, somewhat coarse, and dry on its own. I stopped conditioning for about a week already had some hairs locking up just rolled with it. Unfortunately my hair is also quite frizzy so doing the locks its even worse lol. The only plus side is that for the most part people can't really tell there is anything amiss because my locks still look very much like curly, frizzy, messy hair. Though they aren't all locked up some are still loose and free flowing. I have more like a partial set at this point.
Anyways onto the pictures!
These pictures are all about 1 weekish after. I had at this point decided to try letting them lock and see what happens. I did put in a few in myself at this point just to try out how twist and rip method worked.
^^this was the first one I ever made myself and it was a week old that day. I was just really proud of how nice it looked lol. Though once I let it go it was still very loose.
Week 2:
A few days into week 2. This was just me playing with filters, but I thought it showed an overview of my hair so included it. I don't really have many pictures of the second week for some reason.
Week 3:
Okay so this was towards the middle/end of week 3.
This is one where my hair started to naturally curl around the root I thought that was kind of cool.
These are my naturally formed ones. They are more curly than the ones I did myself. Still pretty smooth actually and only lightly knotted up. I have found that the ones I allowed to knot up naturally have retained a lot more of their natural curl pattern than the ones I did myself.
Week 4:
This is the start of week 4.
I feel like this picture makes my hair looks so much messier than the previous one even though they are literally the same day and a minute apart. lol.
End of Week 4:
This is the first time I have seen the back of my head! lol I actually had my partner take a picture after he separated all my locks because I was getting a lot of joining at the roots. I can do most of them myself, but the back is hard.
Beginning of week 5:
These are the braids I added. Too much fly away here was happening and no matter how much I wrapped the small strands around other more established baby locks they refuse to stay. So I added some small braids and going to see how they lock up. I backcombed the ends a little too. Yarn and bands are there to secure them. Long term I plan to remove the bands and replace it with just the yarn until it becomes a little more knotted on the ends. I plan to replace the yarn every few weeks.
This is all of my hair! So far looking great. I went out last night so I have tons of small beads everywhere. I normally take them out at night, but got in too late yesterday. So you get to see my hair somewhat decorated!
End of Week 7/Beginning of Week 8:
School has been rough so I haven't had a chance to update, but here are pictures that are at around 2 months! I can't believe it really. Feels like it hasn't been that long.
These were taken a few days apart. Lots of loose hair, but it is starting to look more like real locks. Not just weird messy/curly hair.
Just thought this was cool as these are my natural locks that I left alone and they are beginning to intertwine.
Can't wait to show more in the weeks to come!
