Dreaded NomadShoootz!! Sweet pics brah!! Nice hike up Waipio! Get plenty dreads in Hawaii!! Hehe...I see someone from Hawaii and my pidgin comes out. I have family there and the islands are large part up of my upbringing. I say T&R away!! My fave method next to natural. It'll help with getting thinner dreads. Here's a couple of mine: Aloha nui loa and I hope to see more dread and nature pics soon!!!!

jxbx Howzit brah!! Ohh that hike was so worth it! I just went in da ocean for the first time today since dreading, then sun dried. They feel different which is cool. Thats awesome. How often do you visit ? And yeahh, I think mine may turn out like yours. I like em. I noticed A lot of people go natural here. I like the look of them. I feel its easier for me to wait when i can physically see that my hair is doing something with a kick start. But im just gonna let it go naturally now that my sections are bundled together. Ill post every new week until the 1 month!

From what I can tell, having dreads started on the skinny side as well as accounts I've read, they certainly seem to take a bit longer to get through the development process--mine are 2 years and a few months old, T&R install, and the majority of the length of most of the ~130 I've got are still in an unfolded state (like the original T&R is still intact in the upper 2/3 while the bottoms and some random spots up the shaft have bunched/drawn up/doubled on themselves); it's clear that eventually the 'straight' length will be entirely scrunched, resulting in a diameter increase of probably 30ish%, but it's certainly taking a long time to get there. I did do the T&R very tightly though, so I'd guess I managed to impair my progress a fair bit versus looser installations, and hopefully yours will go at least faster than mine

They look great and what a beautiful place to live! I T&Red mine. I think I have close to 100. I've yet to count. I'm also hoping they end up on the skinny side. I know there will be a big variety in the size of mine. I look forward to seeing your progress and views.

willowbranches Dang! I kinda hope mine lock up faster than 2 years. But yeahh! from roots to the 2/3 mark there knotty, but i definitely have some straight tips pretty long. I tried backcombing the ends of them to try and bypass it, but it seems my hair is thin from brushing my old set out over a year ago. I also know what you mean, or at least the idea so far as in certain sections are more knotty than others. seems all my fatter dreads and the sections of dreads that i backcombed are already feeling like they are doing something. The crown of my head doesn't seem to want to stay locked. the section is staying together but doesn't feel like the others. But I guess ill just have to let it go Yours look really cool! heatherh Thanks! and it is!! humid and hot. gotta love the extra frizz. haha I never counted either. But i do wanna say around 60, maybe 70. This is the most careless iv ever been..in a good way of course. I would always get irritated with how loose they got, or would keep loose rubberbands just at my roots the first month to keep the sections neat, or even avoided doing certain activities worried about more loose hair. Now I think im on island time. I am more content with letting them go and be messy. Most of it I think is because a ton of people have them here so nobody really cares how they look before they get better. Plus theirs are natural and I kick started mine. so the give and take is even Thanks again. Ill keep this updated

your starters are definitely looser than mine, which is promising, plus I began with 3-foot long hair, and the whole shebang was further hindered by 6 months using a wash method unfavorable with my water at the time, so have no fear you'll make progress at a much better rate than I did--I've ploughed through a lot of timelines and I'm pretty sure I've experienced a lesson in patience second only to neglect-heads with a mid-length minimum (which means I needed it) I'd recommend ignoring those tips, if you hadn't decided to already--if they're thin they'll be prone to falling out if 'helped' and really they'll catch up better if left to their own devices (before you know it you'll have club ends, bwahaha ). There is definitely a diverse range of pros and cons between backcomb and t&r installs, the most rewarding of which in the latter case is that the dreadlings tend to look/feel more like dreads sooner/faster, but personally I much prefer how t&r morphs (albeit slowly) into something closer to neglect appearance, they're so full of character it's well worth the extra time it takes to achieve ... and in hindsight I would have gone full neglect had I not been so concerned that the sheer waterfall of hair I had wouldn't turn into a handful of mondo-dreads Is your crown unravelling from the root end or the tip end? Do you sleep much on your back or more on your sides? If you were in a cooler climate I'd say try a snug wool beanie to encourage friction in that area, but you're not Regardless, they'll do their business in time Thank you, finally, for the positive feedback, and I'm sure your journey will be just as rewarding as mine, however it gets there--you're sure off to a great start!

willowbranches Yeahh, I couldnt understand how you get a even knot up the ehole section. the T&R gave me some cool puff ball sections if i went down too far before ripping. And I do like the whispy tips so far. Im thinkin itl be easier to forget about em the more time passes! Thats also what i liked about the T&R method. They do end up looking more natural in the end There is sections in my dreads that i can technicially pull apart on my crown, but either above it or below those areas its knotted. So at least thats going good. haha I like sleeping on my sides, but chill and netflix on my back. Iv been kinda trying to keep the sleeping even all around my head if can. lol Some of my dreads start an inch or 2 off my head too. I noticed that if the sections were a bit bigger it was hard to rip knots really close to the scalp. So i just left em. no congo like things happening yet. No worries! Your info is good and detailed! I cant wait to see how they look at 6 months!!!

I think it's just the way babies find their way. It's also locking in a interesting way. The root 1/3 is loose, middle 1/3 is well locked in the front portion, ends are loose. In the back only the bottom 1/3 is locking. They are definitely funny little creatures. I'm excited hat it's cold enough for a beanie finally!

heatherh That makes me feel a bit better! haha Do your whole dreads ever get curly the whole way up after getting out of the water and let them dry ? Idk if its the ocean thats doing it, or the fact that my dreads are thin and still acting like they did before they were put together. Definetly exciting!! It took me a week to do my head. The ones in the back bottom feel tight, but their also thicker x's 2 ish.

Hey cutie!! Hawaii is going to be great for your hair! lots of saltwater and moisture in the air! I think 2 months is still a little early to be doing any maintenance because they are changing A LOT right now. What ever you have done will just either fall out or change and you will be back at the same spot. which could cause frustration. I know those sessions arent cheap either. I would wait till at least six months and then see how you feel about it. You could risk damaging what you have going on if you do it too early. Just my opinion.
