Day one
Shameful roots need dyed!
-----------------------------------------------
Month one, yay all the hair!
Loooops?
LOOOOOOPS!
-----------------------------------------------
Month two! I removed and resectioned the bottom back layer as they were too thick, and used backcomb method.
Having to seperate a lot at the moment! And even though I only wash my hair weekly my lovely lush bar seems to be stripping the colour from my roots faster than roadrunner so I may return to my l'oreal sulphites free - suggestions welcome.
-----------------------------------------------
Month three - New colour! Unintentionally, I mixed the colour ratio just a wee tad on the dark side...
Just after washing the dye out
------------------------------------------------------------
Month four
It's a bit of a May Mayhem with my hair at the moment. .Will always have insecurities (I have an anxiety disorder and it manifests a lot in insecurities) but I'm learning to worry less, starting with my hair.
-----------------------------------------------------------
4.5 month deep clean!
It did strip the colour somewhat but I'll be dying again next week.
------------------------------------------------------------
Month 5.5
Just back from two weeks sailing on a tall ship - the rumours are true, salt water does wonders for new baby dreads!!
Exciting times were had when I figured out that I can tie my hair back using two dreads!
------------------------------------------------------------
Month six.
I'm loving my hair more and more each day.
------------------------------------------------------------
Month seven.
I made the decision to trim most of the length of the wispy ends off - some of them were four inches long! Time will tell if that was a good idea or not...
Before trim
After trim
------------------------------------------------------------
Month eight.
There are a few things I would have done differently, now that I am here. I would have been more religious about sectioning, definitely. And enlisted help to back comb properly. But I'm happy regardless!
------------------------------------------------------------
Happy nine months, dreadies!
------------------------------------------------------------
Dreadies first Christmas....
11 months old. Not that much changed in month 10… but I was going through a rough patch and didn't feel like I belonged here either.
I'm out the other side though so whee. Let's see what's new.
We lost a comrade.
And I think they are starting to grow.
Here's to a new year, a new hope - and my first dreadiversary. Have a lovely Christmas folks!
------------------------------------------------------------
Happy Birthday Dreadies!
It's weird to read this over and see how things have (and haven't) changed in a year. And how much closer I am to 30.
Two are banded as I literally just split them and banded them for a wash. Bands were removed after!
------------------------------------------------------------
Month 13.
After brushing out another two flat fatties I now have 45 dreads. Two more I am considering splitting, and there is definitely one thin guy who might not make it.
Also, giraffe onesie.
------------------------------------------------------------
Well. Here we are, my 30th birthday. Yesterday my mother calls to ask me was I going to remove my dreads now, that I've had my experiment. Not planning on it, mother! She's usually pretty accepting of all my weirdness (thankfully, as dad is absolutely not!) but she laments glossy, shiny, straight hair.
And I don't! Every day of this journey so far I've loved my hair a little bit more. Now it's starting to look like dreads it's pretty amazing.
Friends don't stop touching it and I get the "my friend with the dreads - but she washes hers!" all the time which is pretty cool.
So, happy 30th to me, and happy 14 months dreadies.
------------------------------------------------------------
15 months and a deep clean.
I had intended to dye my hair this afternoon after the deep clean but they feel sooooo good I kind of want to wait!
Anyway, 15 months! Not much has changed. Colour is still good, shampoo is still good. This is a month since my last dye, the colour fades out great!
------------------------------------------------------------
Here we are, 16 months, isn't time flying by!
And the obligatory blurry photo from the back
------------------------------------------------------------
17 months, and we are starting to grow
Isn't this fun?
------------------------------------------------------------
A year and a half!! Just like that.
And a fresh dye job
------------------------------------------------------------
19 months, super faded hair colour, back to deep red this week
Back to normal
------------------------------------------------------------
Totally forgot about month 20....
So, um... happy 21 months!!
------------------------------------------------------------
22 months, finally gaining some length
------------------------------------------------------------
Just a few days late... 23 months
Transitioning colour to lavender
------------------------------------------------------------
Two years!
I can't believe it's been two years. I don't think I'll be updating monthly now unless something crazy happens.
I am finding it more and more difficult to colour my hair anything other than red or shades of red. But I'm determined to keep it going!
After a bleach bath
New colour for two years
Outside they are positively luminescent
------------------------------------------------------------
25 months and playing with styling
------------------------------------------------------------
28 months, flirting with grey
------------------------------------------------------------
29 months, 14kg lighter and mermaid hair. Because.
------------------------------------------------------------
3 years, 36 months and getting chunky, which is making me dislike them. Some of the fattest ones will be facing the chop to see if I start loving my hair again.
On the plus side, length! I’ve also said goodbye to 3st of weight and got married since I last saw y’all
