A relative said at a party a while back that I'm starting to look like my dad as I get older. We were both a bit surprised but I think he was more shocked than I was ha. How did you get on with your dad, James? I don't have much in common with mine (beyond the fact that I'm undoubtedly just him under a different set of circumstances) which is why I imagine we don't share much in the way of style.

I didn’t get on. I don’t think he realised the concept of having a kid. He was engrossed in being the kid of his parents that were the centre of his world. So I sort of got ignored. But just at that point when being an adult at university and somewhat growing up relationships change. I would have woken him up, taken him on walks, bonded over mutual interests... but he was taken from me before I could do that. And I’m mightily pissed off about that. Because I know we would be friends. Only that I was the one who had to grow up first. My mum sometimes acts ‘freaked out’ like from mundane stuff. Like I’ll just be putting something in the boot of the car and for a split second she thinks I’m my dad in the mirror and acts weird.

You don’t get over losing parents or friends. You just find a place to package it away in a safe place in your mind so it doesn’t surface all the time. But you are changed. That suffocating sinking horror is always being kept at bay.

It's not a pain I know but that very much sounds like what friends who have lost loved ones tell me.

I don't know how I'd feel, losing a parent. My Dad's 70 in a couple of weeks, and he just keeps going with all his building projects and interests, perfectly happy in his own world. I can't imagine him not being around. I'll periodically have Mum nag at me to offer to help - she worries he'll drop down dead doing something one day, but he never wants it when you offer, then he does it all by himself when you're not looking. I got some 'appliances' attached to my face today for a film shoot. First time I've had the full sfx treatment, and I now have a greater appreciation for other actors who have to sit for hours getting made up. Apparently there are tales of the actor who played Freddie in nightmare on elm street sleeping in his prosthetics if he had an early start the next day. It was surprisingly comfortable once the whole face was on.

Hehe I saw your pic on FB with it a little more removed, I was wondering what you'd been up to. You'll be able to watch Robert Llewellyn in his Kryten makeup with a little more solidarity now!

Thanks very much guys!! Been a brilliant journey so far, I couldn't fault them, and I can't wait for what else is still to come (length please 😁 ). They do look very similar to how mine did. At around the 2 1/2 mark they suddenly looked very dready in shape, all that character was swallowed in, and by 3 years i was a regular dreadhead ( besides them being all odd sizes). It’s nice to see your set, they change so much in those first years.
