Yes out of the way and neat is what they want. I hope I get an answer soon!

I think that looks totally acceptable! I wouldn't even be able to tell there's a dread jungle under there. Aloe Vera gel will also help tame some of the frizzies, if needed! I used to use it to control my frizz for family photos.

If you're fortunate enough to live in a place that has placed religious freedom in it's constitutional rights AND you feel that your locks are related to your religiospiritual growth your employer would be required by law to allow your locks as long as you are willing to compromise as well (cover, wear totally up, etc.)

I know how you feel, I've worked in a hospital since the age of 18 and it is frustrating to be so stifled when it comes to self expression. My tattoo's are all in places that aren't on show as they may be seen as "unprofessional", I've had to take piercings out and I've never been able to do anything interesting with my hair. I am now in a position where I can start my dreads because I've moved into theatres and have to wear a hat everyday, yey! The problem will come when they're massive and wont fit under my hat haha, but I'll cross that bride when I get to it.
Good luck, I hope everything works out for you. In a profession where we're supposed to be non-judgemental I find that it doesn't ever apply to us!

Thanks taoistlocks, that is a good tip. I am fortunate that it didn't have to go that far, and when I showed them how I could wear my hair back they said it was fine.
Jaffck I always figured you didn't have to be that professional looking when working in a hospital, and this is my first hospital job therefore my only experience so far... I think it varies place to place. Our company works in many hospitals and some care about covering up tattoos and some don't. I only have one hospital that I work for, thankfully.
I just believe that change can only happen when these preconceived notions about appearances are challenged. That's why I felt I needed to stand up for it, though it might seem silly to some, to stand up for something like this (not you guys, I know lol). It is just hair, so if I want to wear it in a way that makes me feel beautiful or strong or at peace, or for whatever reason, I should be able to not only because it's my body, but it also benefits the employer when an employee is made to feel confident and capable no matter how he or she looks. I am not any less capable of doing my job if I have dreads, or a mohawk, or pink hair or a nose ring... All of the above... Etc. Anyway, I could clearly go on and on about this. Thanks all for letting me rant ☺️
