I seen that after browsing through the site and exploring threads. It happens, Facebook seemingly has replaced a lot of forums. Im glad i found it regardless as there is a wealth of information! And it led me to imgur to help me document my journey!

Hellos all around, it has been quite a while. I am now living dread free and not hating it. There are still a few things I miss but since loosing my job it's nice that people don't recognise me and ask about it.
Hope you're all keeping well, I have been busy gardening and house keeping and just generally avoiding people.
Welcome to all the new dreddies and non dreddies.

Nice to hear from ya Lipstic. Glad you're living life happy without locks. Quite a few of our heads have changed recently... Ashlyn (littl3birdy) just got rid of her locks and only half of my head is knotted up, now. I've been thinking about cutting it all off, to be honest, I'll give it a while but feels like it might be time.

Hi everybody!
I’m 21 y/o and I put synthetic dreads in for the first time just a few days ago, came here to learn more, but maybe this site focuses more on “real” dreads? Anyhow, I’m happy to be here!

Hi folks, thought I would reach out to my fellow dreadheads. Had various hairstyles over the years, long hair, skinhead, spiked, mohawk and finally grew it long again and got dreads. Other than a mullet I covered most bases I think, but its my dreads I love the most.
Anyway people I am glad to be part of the community!

Hello, hello....
Heathen Rhaine here, used to go by SkiTz or SkiTzCoRe on the original DT. So I guess I'm not technically new, but more or less, new to '3.0'. I see a lot of things have changed and a lot of folks are gone. That truly sucks but at least the information is still flowing strong. My hair has been through all kinds of things in the last 8 years (...I think?). Dreads in, dreads out, hair short, hair long.... Still led me back to dreads.
Something that I noticed about having dreads is that it changes something about you. I don't know what that something is, because it's different for everyone, or even how it works... but it does. I know that in different cultures, dreadlocks hold a different meaning and represent so many things. One of the things that I believe, honestly, is that they hold in energy. That energy is vital to your well being. Lol, not saying you MUST have dreads to live, just saying that it seems to lighten the load on your soul somehow.
That's why, I guess, that it always hurts to see someone cut theirs off (to me anyway). For whatever reason, it seems like they lose part of themselves, part of their personality. I mean, you're still 'YOU', but your pieces fell off the puzzle table and people no longer see the whole picture that was once you.... Yeah I know, I'm weird. But this is me, or 'The Mind' that IS me.
ANYWAY....
Current dreadlings are 6 days old as of today. No plans to remove these this time as my life has changed quite a bit. Y'all are welcome to ask me whatever if ya got questions. Nice to be back.... I think.

Hello everyone My name is Steven and I’m newish on this forum I made my account a couple weeks ago and I don’t think I posted pictures and posts up correctly so I went back and re read the message for new users and it told me to start here lol I have had my dreads a little over 2 months right now and I used back combing and a crochet hook and I’m really excited at how they r looking so far. It wasn’t until a couple weeks ago though that I read online and it said that using a crochet hook is actually really bad and I started cutting back on using it. The only time I ever really use it is if the tip or body of my dreads r feeling a little loose. My hair does grow super fast and I already have new growth coming in from the roots so I’ve been counter clock wise rubbing them every now and then to try and get them ready. I do have a lot of questions on What I should be doing at this point cause I don’t want to mess them up to bad and their going to be happy on my head and I’m going to be happy to. So I would appreciate some feed back and some help if that’s possible from fellow dread heads lol. Thank you for ready this by the way.

Hi. At 2 months its best to just let your hair be free. It will fall apart over months, look bad, but then start to rectangle itself into ropes and form proper solid dreadlocks. It’s a hard thing to do, but in the long run you will have awesome dreads you don’t need to fix or tidy. The reason using a crochet hook is bad is that it gradually breaks hairs and over time you can end up with weak spots ( people’s dreads have fallen off in the middle). But you’re doing ok. The best thing is to just let it be and not worry. Can I point you to our Facebook page as nobody is hardly on here now and the Facebook version of the forum is very active, loads of people on there to give advice, all nice. m.facebook.com/groups/516666885181058/

Hello! 😊 I’ve been watching DT for quite some time now and am in love with the community of wonderful humans on here and the amount of support and information that is passed around! I will be joining the Facebook group but finally figured out how to be a part of this one so I figured, why not both haha I’m 20 years old, turning 21 in a few months, and I am 4 days away from my dreads turning 2 months old! I was born in Harrogate, England but am now living in Alberta, Canada! I am a dog trainer but working towards owning my very own sanctuary for all animals in need! This is my second set of real dreadlocks, though my first didn’t last even a year, and I have played around with lots of synthetics during the time in between. I miss my synthetics sometimes, they were so easy to be creative with! But I am so happy to have started my real dread journey again! They seem to be knotting up fairly quickly and I get so excited watching their progress and all the different lumps and loops that they take on! I started them with the twist and rip method and ended up dreading them and redreading them 3 times before I was happy with the sectioning haha and I still don’t know if I’m totally satisfied with it! But I am going to wait and see how they develop before changing them any further. I did a very small amount of crocheting just at the base of a few that were trying to split in half, though I know it’s ill-advised, and now I am just letting them do their thing! I wash them 3 times a week with baking soda and water, and then rinse with 2 parts apple cider vinegar - 2 parts water, to help my hair grow faster as it’s rather short, and it also has helped the knots stay as my hair has been somewhat dry. Twice a week, I use my sea salt, lemon and water spray (I’m not anywhere near an ocean unfortunately so I can’t just go for a swim) to help them lock up faster! I can’t wait to see what my hairs going to do and how my dreads will look once they’re all grown up! I will hopefully have a timeline going soon as well! I hope everyone is well 😊
