Day 1: May 10, 2016
After 7 long hours at the salon I walked out with around 70 baby locs, all created with the back combing method, and sadly, some wax. I lost A LOT of length but already loving it!
Day 8: May 18, 2016
I was dangerously vigorous with my 1st wash on day 7, wanting to get all that wax out. It felt so good to have them feeling and smelling clean. I had about 4 dreads that would not round out no matter how much palm rolling was put into them. So I read online to wrap them for a couple of days. It did end up working out in my favor. They are nice and round. Still palm rolling everyday. However I now understand it is completely normal to have flat dreads in the beginning. My scalp has been super itchy but I know in time that will pass too.
(my wraps look like I'm rocking rasta colors. Not my intentions at all. The lighting is horrible for this picture. I'm a hooper so I matched the embroidery floss to my hoops. pink, green, purple, and yellow. Just had to throw that out there😊)
6-7 weeks: June 24, 2016
Loving them more and more everyday! No more itchy scalp!!! They are knotting up real nice and becoming more dense everyday. I wash them every 5 days. They love to get all tangled up in one another so I spend a few minutes every couple of days separating. Getting lots and lots of loops and loving every one of them. I hardly ever Palm roll anymore. If I notice a really flat dread I'll spend a few minutes palm rolling it but other than that I just leave them be. I'm getting so anxious to see what my dreadies have in store for me!
9 Weeks: July 12, 2016
Gave my babies a nice cleansing soak using distilled water, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, Rosemary oil, tee tree oil, lavender oil, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. My dreads felt and smelled super squeaky clean afterwards. I was very thrilled with the results.
10 Weeks: July 19, 2016
Holy Loops! Loops! Loops! It's safe to say I'm in the loopy stage. There is not a single loc on my head without a loop. Along with loops almost every dread has lots of loose hair at the end. In the very last picture I brought it all together. Some days it doesn't bother me, some days it drives me CRAZY! Should I leave it? Or can I trim it up a bit? Bleh! Feel free to comment what you think about it. Overall everything is still going fabulous with my babies, still loving them more and more everyday:)
3 MONTHS!
(Please excuse the terrible picture quality, currently out of a camera and have been using my iPhone)
I can't believe my dreads are 3 months old already! It doesn't look like much has changed from pictures but there's definitely some new things going on amongst the dreadies! I still have a ton of loops but there are a few dreads that are starting to smooth out which has been really exciting for me! I'm starting to see and feel some shrinkage in places. I created my own salt water spray with natural salt and distilled water (pictured below). I'm not sure if the spray is causing the shrinkage or if it's happening on its own. I only dampen my hair with the spray once or twice a week. Either way I'm happy with what's going on. Along with the shrinkage has come thickness. My dreads have become so thick I can no longer grasp them all in one hand when pulling back for work. I've found that using a headband to pull them back is much easier than trying to get a standard hair tie to fit around them. I'm so excited to see what changes month 4 will bring!
haha my dread bun now has little dreadies that stick out all over the place
