As if by magic, I had some punk guys approach and ask me about dreadlocks this morning! Funny how it's never happened to me before but as soon as someone else says it happens to them all the time, I get one the next morning. o.0

That's funny. I like when people are curious instead of judgemental. I have met some people recently who have said that they really like my hair so it's been easier to ignore the ones who don't.
Btw the aloe gel worked! It is great for frizzy roots. That and bandana headbands.

,Fortunately, mine isn't quite long enough to require headbands or the like yet.
Yet.

Does this mean my mini meltdown the other is lost to the pages of time?..... Good! I took another pic of the top of my head, with flash. I want to think it doesn't look quite so bad, but I might be deluding myself. As I say, I think that's not as bad as what I showed the other night. No, I'm not naked! Won't be cutting, might brush out 3 on top and make some smaller sections. I'm loathe to do that because I like being able say "this is just may natural hair" to any dread-haters or PoMo ID politics grievance mongers, so I'll think on it some more.

Honestly, I'd leave it. It doesn't look that bad and if you give the stuff you've been recommended a go, you might just reach a point of being happy with it again.
In any case, I don't think it;d be a wise idea to brush out and start again. Even though they're not fully mature, you'd lose a lot of hair in the process and, after putting them back in, they won't be as long or as thick as they were and you'll wind up with a whole other complex about it being thinner in that general area for a different reason. This is from experience with my first set.
It looks fine, dude, I don't think you can particularly see much more scalp than normal.

Cheers, Paul. I'm just so horribly vain about my mane. Maybe I should shave the bugger to fix the vanity (joke!).
Thanks mate.

I would leave it Darren. I think you are being harder on yourself than is necessary. I don't think it looks bad at all. Combing it out might just rip out hair and cause damage.

If I go bald, I'm going down with my dreads along the way! I have these little crises now and again. you all help me immensely when I do.
Thanks, Ashlyn.
Kate, nope, I do sit around in my kecks (undies)a lot though. I had a teeshirt on too, which you can just see if you look below my eyebrow.

Kecks is a great word even if I can't say it out loud correctly. Whatever happens you're still a cutie patootie

A guy I used to spend time with had a ponytail of dreads at the back of his head and everything else was shaved, all bald apart from the bunch of dreads at the back, if that makes sense. He was going bald on top so chose to make a feature of what he could keep

I was at somewhere else and noticed some bodyshop anti dandruff ginger shampoo. The 'anti - dandruff is usually a clue it's not too conditioning. Anyway it was pretty good stuff to wash the ropes with. I'm becoming a shampoo thief.

Oh yeah on a related not, a friend that stayed over, realising I'd run out of shampoo washed his hair with bubble bath. He would not shut up about how light and fantastic his hair felt. You washed your hair with bubble bath? Apparently good for undreaded hair.

I was reminded by a post in another thread that mentioned spiders, but have you guys had it when you're sitting there and then suddenly one of the little eight-legged gits sails down in front of your face from your locks? It doesn't happen very often but I've had it probably 4-5 times, always makes me jump.
