Your locks look absolutely fine for 2 months! I had major dread anxieties all the way up to like 1 and a half years of locks until I learned to let go. I thought my sectioning was off, loose hairs everywhere and that they'd never look like dreadlocks etc. They ended up looking just fine. Here's a comparison I made of my timeline, as you can see they really look nothing like dreads in the first ones:

Just for shits n giggles... The usual "up do" And the madness olivebreath, that mess is glorious!!! I remember hair bands in the 80s paying top dollar at a salon to get that look! Embrace the shit out of it, in time, it will unfortunately pass.

Thats such an amazing compliment to be thrown at me. My soul screams to be the age I am now but in the 80's

You have to get used to it, in few months You'll see significant difference without doubts and like jxbx said, embrace it and be proud of them

hey olivebreath, i miss that "madness"! Mine all shrunk to half the length, and while I'm excited about the fullness, they don't go all over my head like that anymore. Like I can't pull it up over my head and have it pointing out like that. ohhh, but I hope it gets there again. Probably have to wait a year though, at least, it seems. Ugh!

Sections are all about an inch. Some a little smaller. Some a little larger depending on the area i was working with to get the "brick pattern" type sectioning.

If I learned one thing this year when starting my dreads, it was patience.
If I learned two things, it is that the dread wraps from seller TheDreadShop on etsy ROCK. They ship quickly, the bands are comfy and cute, and when you are having a crisis of faith you can throw one on and forget what's happening under there and go on with your life.
If I learned three things, it is that Dollylocks shampoo bars also ROCK.....they are expensive, but after I started using those things started tightening up a lot faster (for me, anyway....I have kinda curly hair.) I also sleep with a rough towel on my pillow and the extra friction seemed to make loose hairs find a dread home pretty quickly. Maybe I am imagining these things, but they made me feel better!
My dreads looked AWFUL months 2-4. Awful to the point of "Oh my gosh, what have I done?" Whenever that happened I came to this site and read until I felt better. Then get some chocolate and take a nice nap. I'm at month 10 now and random strangers get all starry-eyed even when I think I'm having a crap hair day and say "Oh! I LOVE your dreads!" And I am SO glad I didn't stop. I still have loose hairs but no one seems to notice but me. Hang in there, darlin', think of it as a rite of passage! You're walking through the dread flames now but it will be all cool breezes and calm waters on the other side!! Before you know it you'll be telling your tale to help others through this time!

olivebreath I'm only two DAYS into my dread journey, so I don't have much to say on the matter. But I think your dreads look amazing so far! I actually LOVE that first photo with the high pony tail. They look so spunky! Hang in there. You are already giving newbies like me courage.
